Consultations to Professionals

Professional Consultation to schools is a collaborative process that can be used flexibly to help in many situations. Within this procecss, a consultant creates an environment in which the professional can explore a dilemma or concern. This environment facilitates both formulation and problem-solving. Consultation may be a one off or it might be part of a series of consultations. At The Rooms of Knutsford our consultations can be centred around;

  • A specific child that you are worried about (providing consent has been obtained)
  • A programme of work that you are putting together
  • General themes within your organisation for example exam stress, engagement of young people, staff care, relaxation, reparation, managing conflict

Within consultation we can work together to achieve many positive outcomes including (but not limited to);

  • Identifying difficulties and developing an understanding of a child or young person
  • Planning a piece of work that you are going to undertake with a young person and reviewing this together
  • Develop knowledge, skills and confidence in managing emotional health issues
  • Access guidance and support from a mental health professional
  • Think about strategies that may be helpful in managing certain behaviours
  • Implement, develop or adapt programmes of work

All of these positive outcomes significantly contribute to increasing the resilience of children, young people and their families.

If you would like to see how consultation could help you then please do not hesitate to contact us.

Training for Education Professionals

Mental health difficulties within young people are common, with 1 in 10 aged 5-16 years suffering from a diagnosable mental health disorder.

That equates to around 3 children per class. Staff within education settings are in a strong position to help with the identification of such difficulties and support young people in accessing the assessment and treatment that they may require. However for many staff in education settings they have not had the training needed to be able to help identify mental health difficulties in young people.

Clinicians at The Rooms of Knutsford are able to provide training to staff in educational settings for the following:-

  • Increasing understanding of the common mental health difficulties young people often experience e.g. various anxiety disorders (including OCD, social phobia, separation anxiety, panic), Depression/low mood and how they can effect functioning within education.
  • To increase understanding of developmental disorders such as ASD and ADHD and common characteristics to look out for in young people
  • Identification and monitoring of risk including self-harm
  • How and when to signpost young people and parents towards professional treatment for mental health disorders

Our training is provided through workshops which can be tailored to the needs of the particular organisation and the length is flexible to suit the practicalities of balancing work and professional development.

Workshops are designed to be interactive and include anonymous case studies to practice the skills of identifying mental health difficulties in young people.

For further details, including fees for the workshops please call us directly.

Occupational Health Training

The Rooms of Knutsford provide training and consultancy services to companies and organisations wishing to improve mental well-being within the workplace. Evidence shows that a workforce with good mental health will inevitably perform far more effectively than one which is suffering.

At least 15 million working days are lost in the UK due to stress, anxiety or depression. People who struggle to continue to work while they suffer any mental health problems may not be able to perform their duties to the best of their ability.

Early Intervention and Prevention Evidence shows that a range of stress management interventions amongst employees who are not struggling with mental health problems is beneficial and practical in helping to prevent the onset of psychological problems and promote emotional well-being.

Here at The Rooms of Knutsford we offer custom-made packages in order to provide companies with this type of training. We are able to address any specific areas of need within your organisation. Training can be provided to all staff in order to improve their understanding of emotional well-being and teach strategies to achieve and maintain it.

The workshops can include areas such as:

  • Stress management
  • Problem solving
  • Mindfulness
  • Identification of Common Mental Health Problems
  • Promoting healthy sleep
  • Managing conflict within relationships
  • The workshops are based on a cognitive behavioural approach to
  • Dealing with these issues, and can include a brief introduction to

Line managers can be in a strong position to help with the identification of such difficulties at an early point and support their staff in dealing with them or in directing them to professional help.
